Heat-proof, hardwearing, lightweight and unbreakable, porcelain enamel is absolutely the best thing you'll ever buy for your kitchen, scullery, or camp canteen.

Since the 1920s, Falcon Enamelware has been an icon of British home life. Ice white with a distinctive blue rim, it is instantly recognisable as a design classic.

But as well as timeless elegance, Falcon Enamelware has enduring strength. Enamelware is porcelain fused onto heavy-gauge steel, giving it many admirable qualities - durability, smoothness and chemical-resistance. It can assume brilliant, long-lasting colours, and cannot burn. If you drop it, it may chip but it won’t break. Dishwasher-safe and oven-safe up to 530F / 270C, it can also be used on gas and electric hobs.

Due to the steel core, it's critical to NEVER use enamelware in the microwave. We've found it's safe to freeze enamelware as long as you observe some basic precautions: first, don't use the fast-freeze compartment, but place items in the bottom of the freezer so their temperature is lowered relatively slowly; thaw gently; and most important, ensure that the enamel isn't subjected to any hard knocks or bangs while it's still cold. 

Our pasta and rice plates (7in / 18cm diameter) are absolutely perfect for camping, since they can be used as an ordinary sandwich plate, and will also double up as a shallow bowl for hot, nourishing pasta and stews. They make beautiful plant saucers, too!
